Defendant broke down in tears in court in Tana murder case
The man charged with the murder of 30-year-old Marcus Unsal in Tana in the summer of 2024 pleaded guilty when the case began in Indre og Østre Finnmark district court on Tuesday. According to nettavisen.no, the defendant was tearful as he entered the courtroom.
Unsal was reported missing in mid-June. Following an extensive search, he was found dead on 26 June in a remote area in Tana. The murder weapon was a nail gun, and Unsal was hit 20 times – eleven shots to the head, seven to the chest and two to the back, according to the indictment.
When the defendant was arrested on 23 June, he denied any knowledge of Unsal's disappearance. He subsequently changed his account and admitted to carrying out the murder. The man has stated that he felt threatened by Unsal because of a drug debt.
The trial is scheduled to last three days. In addition to the murder, the defendant is charged with several counts of drug-related offences.
After the murder, Unsal's mother found a large quantity of weapons and money in the family home. She told TV 2 that she had no idea about her son's involvement with drugs.
– He was a calm, warm and caring son. Everyone who met him describes him as helpful and kind, says Torgun Torheim (62).
– It is completely indescribable. First I am told that my son is killed, and then this comes on top of it. I have been so angry and so upset, she tells TV 2.
