Mohyeldeen Mohammad, who grew up in Larvik, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for threats against Venstre parliamentary representative Abid Raja, according to op.no with reference to NRK.
The ruling from Oslo District Court, which was handed down on Tuesday, determined according to NTB that the sentence is in accordance with the submission of prosecutor Frederik G. Ranke.
The threats were made via several text messages to Raja in September 2016. In the messages, Mohammad referred to the politician as "a filthy pig" who should burn in hell, according to NRK.
In addition, a video which Mohammad published on YouTube after the case was covered in the media is included in the charges. In the video, Mohammad comments on what should happen to Raja, and remarks according to NRK that "a fatwa is not necessary".
In the ruling from Oslo District Court, it states that the defendant should have been aware that this was a threat to kill of a character that was suited to cause serious fear in Raja.
Mohammad's defence counsel, Brynjar Meling, informed NRK that the sentence will be appealed.
