The legal representatives of Marius Borg Høiby have submitted a petition requesting that he be released from remand custody. They argue that the 29-year-old needs to be with his family, particularly his mother, who was recently placed on a waiting list for lung transplantation. This is reported by VG.
Lawyer Petar Sekulic told the press after visiting his client at Ila prison that it is unbearable for Høiby not to be with his family now. He stressed that both the son and the mother need each other.
Earlier in the day, a reporting restriction was imposed by the court, but this was partially lifted. Oslo District Court is to consider the release petition in the course of the day.
Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø has argued that Høiby should continue to be held in remand custody. Høiby was recently sentenced to four years in prison for assault and rape, but the sentence is under appeal.
Høiby was initially moved to Oslo Prison, but is now to be transferred to Ila Prison because Oslo Prison is to be emptied of inmates due to renovation work. His lawyer points out that it is uncertain whether his mother will be able to visit him there.
