A hunting party in Halden municipality in the south-eastern part of Norway was subjected to shooting early Monday morning. Two of the members were killed, while a third was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police quickly apprehended a man in his early twenties. Investigators believe a conflict lies behind the violence, and that the perpetrator was not unknown to the group.

The suspect has refused to participate in a standard police interview. He has, however, submitted a written statement in which he assumes responsibility for the three shots that killed a father and his son, and which wounded the third man.

The court has ordered a preliminary psychiatric examination to clarify his criminal responsibility.
