An Oslo court on Monday sentenced Marius Borg Høiby, stepson of the Norwegian Crown Princess, to four years in prison. The 29-year-old man was found guilty of two counts of rape, violence in close relationships and other crimes – reported MTI, with reference to 24.hu.
Høiby was charged in nearly forty counts. He pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges, and denied committing rape. The prosecution had demanded seven years and seven months in prison.
The trial lasted nearly two months and shocked all of Scandinavia. The evidence included a video that allegedly showed sexual violence in the basement of the royal family's home. The trial also detailed Høiby's drug abuse and recordings of sexual acts.
Høiby became a member of the Norwegian royal family when his mother, Mette-Marit, married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. The royal family's popularity has declined recently, which is also due to other crises. The Crown Princess recently had to apologise for maintaining contact with Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual assault.
