Man sentenced to 37 days in prison after motorcycle flight from ferry in Brønnøy
A man in his 40s jumped off the ferry MF "Horntind" in Brønnøy before the ramp was lowered and was struck by police's Taser. He has now been sentenced to 37 days in prison.
Sentenced after dangerous flight from ferry in Brønnøy
A man in his 40s has been sentenced to 37 days in prison, of which 14 days are suspended, following a flight from police in Brønnøy last summer, reports NRK Norge.
On 15 July 2025, police had received a tip about drink-driving and sent two officers to Horn ferry terminal. As the ferry MF "Horntind" was lowering its ramp and pulling into the dock, the man took a run-up and rode off the ferry on his motorcycle.
According to the court ruling, at least one other passenger had to press themselves against the wall as he rode past.
"The situation was dangerous. From the police's perspective, the driver put both himself and others in danger," said police inspector Steffen Ravnåsen in Nordland police district to NRK following the incident.
One of the officers fired a Taser and hit the motorcyclist in the foot. He lost control and was heading towards the railing, but regained control and continued driving at high speed.
The court remarks that the police's use of the Taser may have intensified the dangerous situation, but nonetheless concludes that the man had already created a dangerous situation through his own driving.
The man has been found guilty of reckless driving, driving without a licence, evasion of police control and drug possession. He admitted guilt for possession of narcotics and driving without a licence, but only partially for reckless driving, and denied criminal liability for the evasion.
