A person was confirmed dead on Tuesday evening at a private address on Holmen in Oslo following what police describe as a violent knife incident. According to vg.no, police charged the arrested man with murder shortly after midnight, and he had not yet been interviewed.
The report of a fierce quarrel in the flat was received by police at 19:21. The alert came from multiple sources – both from people inside the house and from neighbours outside.
"It was said that there was a knife, and that one person was chasing another," says operations leader Arve Røtterud.
At 19:48, police reported that a person had been arrested. The suspect was found several hundred metres from the address, with the help of a drone.
"He is arrested several hundred metres from the house. In connection with the arrest, a warning shot is fired by the police patrol. They report shortly after that they have control of the suspected perpetrator," says Røtterud.
The arrested man had blood on him and a knife in his possession when he was stopped. He was taken to the police station for forensic examination, and police also assessed whether he should be taken to an emergency medical clinic.
Large police resources were deployed to Holmen, including a helicopter. A nearby resident told vg.no that he observed police firing a warning shot shortly before the arrest.
"There was lots of police and blue lights everywhere," he says. He recounts that a police officer jumped out of a car with a rifle, and that shots were fired seconds later.
"This is a quiet neighbourhood on Holmenkollen, so for this to happen here was very surreal," says the witness.
According to police, the suspect and the deceased had a family relationship. Operations leader Eirik Sannes told vg.no that investigative work is still ongoing.
"There are still investigative steps and people we wish to speak with," says Sannes.
Police have been in contact with the next of kin.
