Oslo District Court has sentenced the crown princess's stepson to four years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault and drug offences.

On Monday morning, the verdict was delivered in the much-publicised criminal case against Marius Borg Høiby. The court in the capital has determined that the 29-year-old is to serve four years behind bars.
Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad began reading out the verdict at half past eight. In addition to the prison sentence, the convicted man must pay 640,000 kroner in compensation to three of the six women who came forward as injured parties.
The case has been heard in court for seven weeks, from early February to mid-March. The prosecution had listed 40 points, including multiple instances of assault against sleeping women and domestic violence. The defendant has throughout denied the most serious allegations.
Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø had requested nearly seven and a half years in prison. The defence team, headed by Ellen Holager Andenæs and Petar Sekulic, argued that the man should be completely acquitted.
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor emphasised technical evidence and statements from the injured parties. The defence pointed out that there had been a consensual relationship between the parties before the events in question.
The convicted man did not follow the verdict personally in the courtroom, but was present via screen from Ila prison for health reasons. He chose not to make any closing remarks before the case was concluded.
