Oslo police have investigated the disappearance of Mustafa Ahmed as a possible murder since spring 2025. The last confirmed sign of life was in the Torshov area on the night of 30 September 2024.
Oslo police investigating disappearance as possible murder
According to nrk.no, Oslo police have upgraded the missing person case of Mustafa Ahmed to a murder investigation. Ahmed was 30 years old when he disappeared in October 2024, and the case was originally handled as a routine missing person case.
"Since spring 2025, the case has been investigated as a murder," states police prosecutor Kari Kirkhorn.
On 29 September 2024, Ahmed was in the company of several acquaintances in Oslo. The last confirmed sign of life was from the Torshov area on the night of 30 September, where his mobile telephone was registered until the early morning hours. Since then, there have been no signs of life from him.
Interviews with witnesses, findings from searches and compilation of electronic evidence are among the reasons why police now consider the disappearance to be a possible criminal matter.
Police are particularly interested in observations made in Nordkappgata, Kyrre Grepps gate and adjacent streets in the Torshov area. Any observations of the car Ahmed used that night are also relevant to the investigation.
"Police wish to be able to provide answers to the next of kin about what happened to Mustafa, and to prosecute if there is grounds for doing so," writes Kirkhorn.
The family's legal representative, Preben Kløvfjell, told NRK that the disappearance has been a great burden for the relatives. "They hope police can now receive information that allows them to get clarity," he says.
Information about the case has been made public in consultation with the family, in hopes of receiving tips from the public.
Police stress that the threshold for making contact should be low, and that tips can be submitted via police's tip portal. The case is being investigated with high priority, but several alternative hypotheses remain open.
"Police cannot rule out that his disappearance may have other explanations, such as that he has been involved in an accident or disappeared voluntarily," writes Kirkhorn.
