A man from Norway has been sentenced to 15 years' preventive detention after a Swedish woman was found dead in her flat in Trollhättan.

Vestfold District Court has found a 55-year-old Norwegian man guilty of killing a 47-year-old Swedish woman in her home in Trollhättan. The sentence was set at 15 years' preventive detention, with ten years as the minimum period before conditional release can be considered.
According to NRK, the court established that the woman was suffocated with a pillow whilst she lay unconscious. The incident took place on 6 September 2024. In addition to the prison sentence, the man must pay close to one million Norwegian kroner in compensation to the deceased's relatives.
The convicted man had contact with the deceased through an online forum where he offered assistance with suicide. He travelled to Sweden and gave the woman sleeping medication. In court, he claimed that she wished to die and that he had merely assisted with this. The prosecution, however, considered the action to constitute murder, not complicity in suicide.
Court-appointed expert witnesses have assessed the man as extremely dangerous. They point to his lack of empathy and that he is likely to pose a risk of further violence in the future. He has been diagnosed with dissocial and narcissistic personality disorder.
This verdict is not the first time the man has had contact with the justice system. As a teenager, he was convicted of killing a child. In 2024, he was also convicted of helping another woman to take her own life. Journalists from TV 2 uncovered his activities through hidden camera footage, which led to Swedish police arresting him.
His defence counsel states that the verdict will be appealed. The prosecution is satisfied with the outcome and considers the verdict thorough and well-reasoned. The victim advocate for the relatives says the family is relieved that responsibility has now been established.
