A 19-year-old man from Norway was taken at a hotel room in Britain after being suspected of planning a murder on behalf of Iran. According to the prosecution, he was recruited by the Swedish criminal network Foxtrot.
The young man had sent a message to his girlfriend in which he wrote that he was "on a wrong assignment", reports Aftonbladet.
He was allegedly offered 25,000 euros to carry out the murder. When someone asked where this was to take place, the person commissioning the job, who goes by the name "Agent 47", is said to have replied: "Britain. As simple as it can get."
The arrest took place before the planned attack could take place. The case highlights concerns about international criminal networks recruiting young people for violent operations across borders.
The young Norwegian now faces serious charges related to conspiracy to commit murder. The involvement of the Foxtrot network, a Swedish criminal organisation, suggests cross-border cooperation in the alleged plan.
Iran has previously been accused of targeting dissidents and critics abroad, although the specific intended victim in this case has not been publicly identified.
