Oslo district court has determined that Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, may serve his four-year prison sentence under house arrest whilst the appeal proceedings are ongoing.

Oslo district court decided on Monday that 29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, may serve his sentence under house arrest whilst the appeal proceedings are concluded. Høiby, who continues to deny all allegations, appealed the June verdict. Since the court assessed that there is a risk of further criminal acts, the remand detention was extended for a further four weeks. Under house arrest, he must wear an electronic ankle monitor.
One of the reasons for the court's decision is said to be the poor state of health of his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who suffers from a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis and is now improving following a lung transplant, reports the French news agency AFP.
Høiby was in June sentenced to four years in prison with no possibility of early release for two rapes and 32 other counts, including assault against a former partner. The court also imposed a restraining order against the ex-partner on him, which he has breached on several occasions.
