Stepson of Norwegian Crown Princess Released from Custody – Must Wear Electronic Ankle Bracelet
Marius Borg Høiby, who is the stepson of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been released from custody and placed under house arrest. The 28-year-old must now wear an electronic ankle bracelet that monitors his movements, according to SRF.
The Oslo court recently handed down a sentence of four years in prison against Høiby. He was found guilty on 34 criminal acts out of 40 counts. Among the most serious charges were two rapes under Norwegian law, as well as several instances of assault against a former partner. The court had also imposed a restraining order between Høiby and this woman, which he is said to have violated repeatedly.
Police had held him in custody since February, when the trial began. They justified the detention citing the risk that he could commit further criminal acts. Høiby has repeatedly requested release, including to be able to stay with his mother, who suffers from a serious lung disease. These requests were previously denied.
The four-year sentence is not yet final, as the appeal options have not been exhausted.
