Police in the Western Police District deployed multiple patrols to Damsgård in Bergen on Wednesday after members of the public reported possible shots fired with a weapon.

– We received reports from people who witnessed the incident that a weapon had possibly been discharged. This is why we sent a number of resources to the scene, explains operations leader Bjarte Rebnord from the Western Police District to Bergensavisen.

No persons were injured in the incident. Police quickly gained control of two men in their 40s who were carrying a gas weapon.

– They fired shots into the ground, states incident commander Ole Marius Røttingen.

He adds that it was not a threat situation, and that no one had a weapon pointed at them.

The men were arrested and searched. During the search, police found an air rifle in a bag, which was confiscated.

– The weapon is of the CO2 type, a gas weapon that can easily be purchased in shops such as XXL, explains the incident commander.

The two men, who were previously known to police, were charged with illegal possession of weapons in a public place. They were not detained pending remand, but were instead removed from the area.
