Former Trondheim police officer investigated for sexual harassment of minor
A former employee of Trondheim police is alleged to have repeatedly harassed a then-minor woman. The Specialist Unit for Police Affairs is now investigating the man.
Former Trondheim police officer investigated for sexual harassment of minor
A woman in her twenties has recounted repeated offences by a man who was then employed at Trondheim police. The Specialist Unit for Police Affairs has now taken over the investigation. The complainant woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told NRK that the officer took her out of the cell and into an alcove on several occasions, where he made inappropriate comments about her appearance.
Contact began when the woman was in her late teens. The police officer was then more than twice her age. She states that she was at that time involved in a milieu with lower-level crime and was frequently held in custody. According to her account, the man made regular contact with her – also outside of working hours, when colleagues called him because she was in the isolation cell.
The woman further recounts that the man contacted her via social media and repeatedly attempted to reach her through video calls. These calls, according to her, always took place in the evening. She describes his behaviour as intrusive and intense. After her parents discovered the messages, they reported the matter to the police. The authorities confirmed that the incidents were at the time assessed as unacceptable conduct and followed up internally. However, the Specialist Unit was not called in until the media outlet NRK brought forward further allegations regarding treatment in custody.
The man no longer works in the police. He denies the allegations through his defence lawyer Tom Solberg. The latter stated that his client had only intended to get the young woman on a better path. The investigation leader at the Specialist Unit, Tone Bysting, confirms that several police officers are to be interviewed as witnesses. The former officer has the status of suspect.
