Police arrested a man who runs a shop in central Trondheim in the early hours of Thursday. The operation took place in a residential block where the man lives. In a refrigerated storage unit in the cellar, a large quantity of drugs lay hidden.
According to trondheim24.no, police found the substance in a safe. Keys to both the storage unit and the safe were found in the man's flat during the raid.
Trondheim district court has decided to remand the suspect in custody for four weeks. For the first two weeks, he will be allowed neither post nor visits. The court justifies this on the grounds that police believe he may destroy evidence or influence persons with information in the case.
The man's defence counsel has argued that another resident in the flat may be responsible for the drugs. The court believes, however, that it is the arrested man who most likely had control of the narcotics, whilst not ruling out that several people may have been involved.
The investigation is in an initial phase. The court points out that the case concerns a serious drug offence which could result in several years in prison upon conviction. The suspect was not present when the remand order was announced, but may appeal the decision within fourteen days.
