Police: Video on Høiby's phone shows alleged assault
Police have seized video recordings from Marius Borg Høiby's mobile phone which they believe document a rape, nrk.no reports. Høiby was arrested on Monday evening and the following day charged with rape without penetration against a woman in her twenties. According to NRK's information, the incident took place in March this year.
Police initiated an investigation into this matter on 6 November, on the basis of information that emerged during the ongoing criminal case against Høiby. TV 2 first reported on the matter.
Police uncovered another assault
On Wednesday, police requested that Høiby be remanded in custody for two weeks. Following the remand hearing, police prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski stated that the investigation material has uncovered another rape committed by Høiby.
– It has been found in the investigation material, and we are investigating it with full force. The case concerns sexual intercourse without penetration, said Kruszewski.
The remand hearing was held in closed session at the request of police, which the court granted. Høiby's defence counsel Øyvind Bratlien wanted the press to be present.
– We want to show the court that the case looks different and is far more nuanced than the impression one gets from press coverage, said Bratlien.
Defence counsel rejects criminal conduct
Høiby denies guilt in relation to both alleged rapes. Bratlien characterises the charges as "catastrophic misjudgements on the part of the prosecution".
– The videos show, when viewed in context, that nothing criminal has occurred. Other evidence in the case also demonstrates this, the defence counsel told TV 2.
Six complainants in total
The woman from the March incident did not know Høiby before the day on which the alleged rape is said to have taken place. Her legal representative Hege Salomon does not wish to comment on the video evidence for the moment.
Salomon states that the woman was contacted by police and called in for questioning, during which she first gave a free account before being presented with the evidence material.
– From the outset, she has chosen to give an account of herself and cooperate with police, says Salomon, and adds that the woman stands behind the investigation, but that she is struggling as a result of the incident and media coverage.
With the new complainant, there are now a total of six women registered as complainants in the cases against Marius Borg Høiby.
