Trujillo kidnapping: ex-mayor points to foreign individuals disguised as police in abduction and quadruple homicide

Ex-mayor Mario Reyna claims there are signs that foreigners dressed as police officers committed the crime. The vehicle used was hired by a PNP officer.

Ex-mayor of Trujillo points to foreigners in police uniforms in kidnapping and quadruple murder

Mario Reyna, ex-mayor of Trujillo, declared this Friday that there are indications that foreign individuals, disguised as police officers, would be responsible for the kidnapping of businessman Jenss Lara and the murder of his four companions, which occurred last Sunday.

"There is already speculation that those who would have committed the bloody criminal acts could be foreign individuals. There are indications," Reyna affirmed in an interview with the rpp.pe programme Las Cosas Como Son.

Reyna, who until today served as acting mayor and temporarily left office to run again for the mayoralty of Trujillo, detailed a central element of the investigation: a vehicle collected one of the perpetrators of the shootings and transported him towards the neighbouring district of Víctor Larco. Upon questioning the occupants, the authorities determined that it was a vehicle hired by an officer of the National Police of Peru.

"There are many strange things regarding these events," said the former official.

The crime took place in front of the PNP vehicle warehouse and two blocks from the Dirincri Trujillo, a circumstance which, according to Reyna, fuels public distrust of police work in the city.

The ex-mayor also linked the increase in violence in La Libertad to Venezuelan migration. "We have had three decades of criminality, but the matter becomes much more sensitive with migration," he asserted.

Reyna warned that the region faces a deficit of 3,000 police officers and that for years personnel lacked the necessary equipment to carry out their functions.
