Detention and course of events

Bytom police detained a 39-year-old resident of the city who threatened his partner with arson. According to bytom.policja.gov.pl, the man sought to resolve a dispute in a dangerous manner — holding a bottle of petrol, he threatened to spill the substance in the building where the woman worked and then set it on fire. The incident occurred on 19 October. Officers from Police Commissariat I received a report of a man shouting at a manufacturing and trading plant in Miechowice who was threatening arson.

Officers responded quickly to the report, however the aggressor had already left the scene. Police detained him shortly afterwards on Frenzla Street in Bytom. A bottle containing a flammable substance was found in the man's possession.

Court decision

The prosecutor charged the 39-year-old with making threats to take a person's life against the woman. On Wednesday, the man appeared before the court, which upheld the prosecutor's motion and imposed a three-month remand in custody. For criminal threats — an offence provided for in Article 190 of the Criminal Code — a sentence of up to three years' imprisonment is threatened.
