Fraudsters swindle money through fuel sales – police warning

Fraudsters and fuel trading online

Lubuskie Police report a growing number of scams related to fuel purchases via the internet. Fraudsters operating online attract buyers with low prices, then take deposits and fail to deliver the goods. The method involves creating the appearance of a legitimate transaction with fast delivery that never materialises.

The case of a resident of Bytom Odrzańsk municipality (Nowa Sól county) illustrates the scale of the problem. A 60-year-old man decided to order three pallets of ecoal, intrigued by an attractive price. After sending a deposit, the seller stopped answering his phone, and the goods never arrived. The loss amounted to over two thousand zloty.

Police officers point out that fraudsters create websites that look deceptively similar to well-known portals, and the inventiveness of criminals knows no bounds. A key warning is to pay attention to every detail when conducting online transactions – in particular to attractive prices and promises of lightning-fast delivery, which should raise alarm. The appeal from Lubuskie Police concerns limited trust when making online payments and verifying the credibility of the seller before sending money.

Senior Constable Justyna Sęczkowska-Sobol from the County Police Headquarters in Nowa Sól emphasises that safety online depends largely on the users themselves.
