Fake trainee fraudster detained in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski
According to the Świętokrzyska Police, a 19-year-old from Katowice was detained last Tuesday as a suspect in a fraud committed against an 81-year-old resident of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. The District Court in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski imposed a three-month remand in custody against him.
The case began on 10 July when a man claiming to be a police officer called the senior citizen. He conveyed false information that her son had caused a tragic road accident with a fatal outcome. The fraudster convinced the woman that depositing money was the only way to avoid the immediate arrest of her child.
Prompted by panic, the woman packed her savings and handed over 25,000 zloty to an unknown man who appeared at her house as an alleged trainee "aplikant". Only later did she realise that she had fallen victim to fraudsters.
Police officers from the Department for Combating Crime Against Property and Juvenile Crime of the Ostrowiec headquarters undertook an investigation. Their work led to the detention of the suspect, who was charged with involvement in fraud.
