Preliminary hearing in Gabriela Nicole murder: witness describes stabbing in Aibonito
The preliminary hearing against Elvia Cabrera and her daughter for the murder of Gabriela Nicole Pratts began with testimony from an eyewitness in Aibonito Court.

The testimony of an eyewitness marked the beginning of the preliminary hearing against Elvia Cabrera, charged alongside her daughter Anthonieska Avilés Cabrera for the murder of Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario, according to telemundo51.com.
The proceedings commenced on Friday in Aibonito Court. The Prosecution presented as its first witness one of Anthonieska's sisters, who detailed the fight that preceded the crime and claimed to have witnessed the moment of the attack.
According to her statement, the altercation began between two half-sisters of Anthonieska over personal conflicts. In the midst of that quarrel, a second fight erupted involving the victim's mother and other young women.
"When I looked, Lela and Antho were on the floor. Lela was lying on her back and Antho kneeling in front of her. I started kicking at the two of them," the witness testified before the court.
The young woman described seeing an object similar to a pen with a point approximately five inches long fall to the ground. According to her account, Anthonieska took that object and used it to attack the victim.
"Antho put her hand over the object, to cover it I would say. Then Antho grabbed the object toward her shoulder, lifted it and stabbed it at Lela. While that was happening, Lela was not doing anything," she stated. The wound, she specified, was in the hip area.
The witness also recounted that she crawled backwards and asked her partner to take her away from the place for fear of being attacked as well.
The court ruled earlier that the cases of Anthonieska and Elvia would be heard separately. Avilés's defence argued at the start of the session that she had not been able to consult with her client since the case was halted after she was found not to be prosecutable. Judge Valery Téllez Téllez reminded the court that the deadline to guarantee Cabrera's right to a fair trial expired on Sunday 19 October, therefore it was determined to continue the preliminary hearing against her without the presence of her daughter. For the case of the young woman, a trial hearing was scheduled for 28 October, and the hearing against Elvia Cabrera will continue on 21 October.
Mother and daughter face charges of first-degree murder and use of a bladed weapon, both in concert and by common agreement. Judge Téllez Téllez found probable cause on all charges and imposed a bond of one million dollars for each of the defendants.
The events occurred near midnight on 11 August at the Roberto Colón junction, when a quarrel among young people culminated in the fatal attack with a bladed weapon against Pratts Rosario, who was 16 years old.
