PSP officer Bruno Pinto returns to duty following conviction over death of Odair Moniz
Bruno Pinto, convicted to a suspended sentence by Sintra court, returned this week to a precinct on the South Bank. The Public Prosecutor's Office is expected to contest the decision.

Bruno Pinto, the PSP officer convicted to three and a half years in prison with a suspended sentence by Sintra court, resumed police duties this week at a precinct on the South Bank of the Tagus, reports Correio da Manhã.
The news was initially advanced by Público online and confirmed by CM with Ricardo Serrano Vieira, defence lawyer for the officer. "He is on duty at a precinct on the South Bank of the Tagus," stated the defender.
Lifting of coercive measures enabled return to duty
The return to duty became possible after the simultaneous lifting of two obstacles: the coercive measures imposed by the court and the disciplinary proceedings initiated by the General Inspection of Internal Administration. "My client was subject to coercive measures from the court, and also from the disciplinary process. Both were terminated," explained Serrano Vieira.
At the reading of the ruling, on 15 June, the panel of judges who tried Bruno Pinto did not oppose his return to duty, conditioning it only on the resolution of the ongoing disciplinary process — a condition that, with the termination of that process, was met.
Public Prosecutor's Office will contest decision
The court's decision is, however, not final. According to the defence lawyer, the Public Prosecutor's Office intends to file a contestation. "We will proceed with a contestation to what the Public Prosecutor alleges," added Serrano Vieira, anticipating a legal response to the position of the public prosecution.
Bruno Pinto was convicted of the homicide of Odair Moniz, which occurred in Cova da Moura in October 2024. Despite the suspended sentence, the court determined that the officer should pay compensation to the three children of the victim.
