Socialist Party adviser detained in Judicial Police operation over public contracts

A team of ten Judicial Police officers entered the central headquarters of the Socialist Party, located at Largo do Rato in Lisbon, at approximately 09h40. The objective was the workplace of Duarte Moral, a party collaborator and central figure in an investigation examining favouritism in the awarding of state contracts.

The Judicial Police is investigating alleged privileges granted to companies in the media sector. According to the authorities, the scheme is alleged to have yielded the adviser approximately 2 million euros in recent years. There are also indications that the Socialist Party made payments for expenses exceeding the actual amounts.

Duarte Moral and his wife were detained as part of this operation. Searches were carried out at the party headquarters and other locations related to the case.

The investigation continues under the direction of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
