Seven men aged between 27 and 45 years old were arrested by the GNR on suspicion of drug trafficking in an operation carried out on 6 October in the municipalities of Marco de Canaveses, Penafiel and Vila Nova de Gaia. According to tamega.tv, the operation resulted in the seizure of more than 15,000 doses of drugs, approximately €38,372 in cash and three vehicles.
The operation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of Amarante, integrated into the Porto Territorial Command, as part of an investigation into drug trafficking. The inquiries made it possible to identify and locate the suspects, culminating in a total of 19 searches.
Of the searches carried out, ten were residential, six targeted vehicles, two targeted garages and one targeted a commercial establishment — in this case, a laundrette.
The GNR seized 9,328 doses of hashish, 4,655 doses of cocaine and 1,650 doses of cannabis. Six scales, five mobile phones and various material intended for cutting and dosing the drugs were also collected.
Of the seven arrested, two were constituted as defendants. The remaining five are being held at GNR facilities and will be brought before the Penafiel Criminal Instruction Court for the application of precautionary measures.
The operation mobilised an expanded force from the Porto Territorial Command, with the participation of personnel from the Porto Intervention Unit, the Penafiel Technical Support Unit and the Criminal Investigation Units of Felgueiras, Matosinhos, Penafiel, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Also involved were the Environmental Crime and Contraventions Investigation Unit of Porto, the Investigation and Support Units for Specific Victims of Penafiel and Porto and the canine team of the Porto Intervention Unit. The Public Security Police also provided support to the operation.
