16-year-old detained with revolver on Asunción's Costanera
A minor was taken into custody during Monday afternoon after being intercepted by security officers in the riverfront area of the Paraguayan capital. The 16-year-old was carrying a pistol when he was stopped by the uniformed officers.
The incident began when personnel from the Tourism Security Department were conducting surveillance as part of a robbery investigation. At that time, from their base on Costanera Norte, they observed an individual whose behaviour drew their attention.
Officers then initiated a pursuit that ended on the bridge crossing the Perú waterway. There they managed to intercept the suspect and, upon conducting an inspection, found a .38 calibre revolver in his possession.
When questioned about the origin of the weapon, the adolescent stated that it belonged to acquaintances of his and that he was merely safeguarding it, according to statements from a public force spokeswoman cited by ABC Color.
Following the procedure, the minor was taken to the Tourism Security department. Subsequently, prosecutor Carina Serón ordered that he be handed over to the Juvenile and Adolescent Court for the appropriate proceedings.
