Argentine arrested in Paraguay with minor, drugs and recording equipment in raid

San Bernardino raid exposes alleged abduction and human trafficking case
According to red43.com.ar, Paraguay's Public Prosecutor's Office and National Police conducted a raid on Wednesday on a residence located in San Bernardino, Cordillera, rented by Ariel Fernando Morán, 56 years old and of Argentine nationality. Morán was detained and charged with the alleged abduction of a 17-year-old adolescent.
During the operation, authorities seized several mobile phones, syringes, controlled medications—including sleeping pills and tranquilisers—, computer equipment, video cameras, a tripod and lighting directed towards the bed in the main bedroom, which had apparently functioned as a recording studio. Chips, sex toys and other compromising items were also found.
Juan Pereira, commissioner and director of the Anti-Kidnapping Department of Paraguay's National Police, reported that an adult woman was also found in the residence whose situation would be determined by the Public Prosecutor's Office. "She was quite frightened when we entered. She speaks little Spanish because she is a foreign citizen, presumably Russian," Pereira said, and clarified that the conversation was difficult due to the language barrier.
The police chief specified that the woman cannot be considered deprived of her freedom since she maintained contact with people outside. "It does not appear that she is deprived of her freedom," he stated. The woman was not apprehended.
On Monday night, police officers rescued the adolescent from inside a van driven by Morán. The young woman, from Santaní, Department of San Pedro, had arrived in Mariano Roque Alonso to visit the Expo with a group of friends, when she had allegedly been abducted the previous Friday on the grounds of the event.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found 2.3 grammes of cocaine, a large stuffed bear and children's clothing, among other evidence.
Morán is charged with violation of parental authority and serious coercion. Paraguayan authorities do not rule out that the case could lead to charges for human trafficking.
