In the early hours of Monday, agents of the National Police detained a man identified as Walter Ramón Ávalos in the San Roque district of the Paraguayan capital. The arrest took place when the man was attempting to climb the perimeter wall of a house located at the intersection of Curupayty and Azara streets.

According to statements from deputy commissioner Juan González, a patrol from the 3rd Metropolitan Police Station discovered the suspect in the act. The authorities indicated that he would have entered the property with the intention of stealing goods. During the procedure, the officers managed to recover various items that he allegedly had taken.

The officer in charge told the media that the detainee was found at the exact moment he was scaling the wall of the property. He also confirmed that objects he allegedly had taken from the house were seized from him.

Sources consulted revealed that Ávalos has an extensive criminal record: thirteen criminal convictions, mostly linked to offences against property, such as robberies and thefts.

Following his arrest, the detainee was taken to a medical facility to treat a wound to one of his lower extremities, caused when he fell from the wall he was attempting to breach. After receiving medical attention, he was transferred to the corresponding police station, where he remains in custody pending orders from the Public Prosecutor's Office.
