An employee of the Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) of Asunción was arrested after committing acts of violence on Sunday, 19 April, during the match between Olimpia and Cerro Porteño. The capital municipality decided to remove him from his duties and opened an administrative process against him, according to information published on the Municipality of Asunción website.
The municipal chief, Luis Bello, ordered an administrative inquiry against officer Nicolás Fariña, who was not on duty when the incidents occurred. Rodrigo Delvalle, from the municipal administration, stated that the man allegedly inflicted considerable damage to a National Police officer. The arrest took place early in the morning, when the accused was finishing his shift at around 05:50.
In parallel, the Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting a criminal investigation by court order. The administrative file will await the outcome of ordinary justice proceedings. The charges attributed to him are aggravated assault and disturbance of public order.
The Municipality emphasised that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The file has already been forwarded to the Human Resources and Legal Affairs departments of the municipality.
