The body of Luis César Ríos González, a 39-year-old Paraguayan, lay on Japón Street near 29 Proyectadas in Asunción after being stabbed by at least four people, according to elnacional.com.py. Residents of the area alerted authorities through the 911 emergency system; when officers arrived at the scene, the man showed no signs of life.
A witness told responding officers that four individuals were heading down Japón Avenue towards Bañado Sur when they encountered the victim, who was sitting under a tree. According to the preliminary account gathered at the scene, there was a brief verbal exchange before the fatal attack.
Police commissioner Lorenzo Vera indicated that the suspects quickly escaped towards the lower part of the neighbourhood following the assault. He also noted that the deceased had approximately four wounds caused by a sharp object.
Following the discovery, personnel from the Forensics, Homicide and Investigations divisions carried out the appropriate procedures at the scene, along with representatives from the Public Ministry.
Police are working on collecting recordings from security cameras installed in the surrounding area and searching for additional witnesses who may provide information to clarify the case. The operation to identify the four suspects is ongoing.
The homicide generated concern among residents of the Republicano neighbourhood, who expressed worry about the insecurity and violence recorded in the early morning hours in the area.
