A court specialising in organised crime offences ordered that an aircraft used for the transport of narcotics be handed over to the State. More than 265 kilograms of cocaine were found inside the aircraft. Those responsible have already been tried and convicted.
At the request of the prosecutor responsible for combating drug trafficking in Alto Paraná, Elvio Aguilera, the definitive confiscation of the Cessna 206, identified with the registration CP-2038, was ordered. This aircraft was part of a network that moved drugs between Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil.
The decision is based on regulations indicating that all means of transport used for the illegal trade in addictive substances must become the property of the nation.
The Paraguayan magistrates imposed custodial sentences on the two men travelling in the aircraft. The pilot of the plane, Lucio Alfonzo Paz Fernández, aged 36 and Bolivian national, received a sentence of 14 years. His companion, Elmer Enrique Figueroa Paredes, aged 53 and Peruvian national, was sentenced to 13 years. Both were found guilty of trafficking drugs at international level and of other related offences.
The incident occurred on 29 January 2023, when agents carried out an operation in Gleba 11, near the locality of Hernandarias. There they intercepted the aircraft, which was carrying 265.095 kilograms of cocaine divided into 260 packages. The aircraft had touched down to refuel and continue on to Brazil, which was its destination.
