Paraguay and Brazil conducted joint operations in Amambay and Canindeyú, seizing and destroying more than 11 million kg of marijuana and dismantling 1,218 camps.

"Operation New Alliance" dealt a major blow to organised crime in the border zone between Paraguay and Brazil, according to elnacional.com.py. The operations were executed in coordination with the Internal Defence Operations Command (CODI) and the Public Prosecutor's Office, focusing on the departments of Amambay and Canindeyú.
According to the official report, the intervening forces seized and destroyed more than 11 million kilograms of marijuana within the framework of the operation. In parallel, 3,541 hectares of illicit crops destined for illegal cannabis production were eradicated.
In addition to the crops, the authorities dismantled 1,218 clandestine camps that served as production and storage centres for drugs. Among the confiscated material were more than 623,000 kilograms of processed marijuana, already ready for distribution, destined mainly for the Brazilian market.
The authorities emphasised that the objective of the operation goes beyond the destruction of the crops: it also aims to dismantle the logistical and financial structure of criminal organisations active in the border region. Bilateral cooperation between Paraguay and Brazil is considered key in the regional strategy against drug trafficking and related crimes such as money laundering.
According to the official report, the operations will continue in the coming months.
