Operation "Zero Car-minders": 15 arrested in Asunción city centre

Fifteen arrests in city centre during car-minder operation
The Government of Asunción intensified this Tuesday, 31 March, the operation "Zero Car-minders" in the city centre of the capital, resulting in approximately 15 people detained, according to information from asuncion.gov.py.
The director of the Municipal Surveillance Police (PMV), Miguel Ángel Stampf, stated that several of those arrested had outstanding arrest warrants or precautionary measures in place. "Those detained were transferred to the corresponding jurisdictional police stations and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecution Service," he stated.
During the checks, some of those intervened offered resistance. Stampf reported that there was at least one case of threat with a bladed weapon against police and municipal officers, a situation that the security forces were able to control quickly.
The intervention, ordered by the mayor Luis Bello, was carried out with the support of the National Police in areas of high attendance. The coordination between both forces made it possible to access the records of those intervened, facilitating the identification of people with criminal histories.
"We are conducting an expanded operation, with permanent presence throughout the city centre zone and high-traffic sectors. These actions are part of a strategy aimed at recovering public spaces for citizens," Stampf stated.
The official clarified that controls could register a brief pause during the Holy Days, but will be resumed with the same intensity the following week. In parallel, municipal teams will provide coverage at the Asunción Bus Station (EBA) during Holy Week passenger flow, both for departures and returns.
