Windscreen thieves in Asunción: police search for owners of items found in abandoned vehicle
Two suspects smashed the window of a car on Avenida República de Siria and fled on foot following a police pursuit. The National Police are searching for the victims of the seized items.

In the early hours of Friday, officers of the National Police caught two men smashing the window of a parked vehicle on Avenida República de Siria, in Asunción, according to a report by abc.com.py.
The suspects fled in a vehicle, which was followed by police officers along Avenidas Artigas, General Santos, Perú and Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia, until reaching Avenida 21 Proyectada, in the Barrio Obrero neighbourhood.
Upon reaching that point, the individuals abandoned the vehicle, removed the identification plates and escaped on foot towards a residential area located beside a stream, where they lost their trail.
After securing the vehicle, staff from the Forensics unit and the Special Police Operations Force (FOPE) inspected the automobile. Commissioner Víctor Presentado detailed the findings: "They are finding latex gloves, as well as heavy-duty gloves that these groups normally use, the ones called tortoleros, also a screwdriver, a hood and various items of clothing, backpacks, which we are cross-referencing, women's accessories and other valuables."
The seized items indicate that the two men would be part of a gang dedicated to breaking windows and windscreens of parked vehicles to steal belongings from inside them.
The National Police drew up a list of the items found in the vehicle so that possible victims could identify their belongings.
Commissioner Presentado indicated that the investigation would continue with surveillance camera footage to identify the suspects, in coordination with the duty prosecutor. The officer noted that a capture order or a possible search warrant would be requested, and that it would also be determined whether the abandoned vehicle belongs to the perpetrators themselves or was hired.
