Three US citizens charged with attempting to bring 261 kg of marijuana into Paraguay via private jet
The Public Ministry charged three Americans with trafficking 261 kg of marijuana valued at $2 million, seized in Asunción. An Estonian pilot left the country but remains wanted for questioning.
Three US citizens charged with drug trafficking in Asunción
According to judiciales.net, the Public Ministry charged three US citizens for their alleged involvement in bringing 261 kilogrammes of high-quality marijuana into the country, in the framework of an investigation into international drug trafficking.
The shipment was transported in a private jet that landed in Asunción, where it was intercepted in an operation coordinated between the Prosecutor's Office and agents of the National Anti-Drug Secretariat, with support from aeronautical security agencies.
The authorities estimate that the seized drug has an approximate value of 2 million dollars, whilst the operational cost of the transfer from the United States to Paraguay is calculated at around 120 thousand dollars.
During the procedure, mobile phones, satellite communication equipment and computer devices were also seized. These materials will be submitted to technical assessments with the objective of reconstructing the network of contacts and the logistics used in the transport of the illicit substance.
A fourth crew member was released during the procedure. The pilot of the aircraft, an Estonian national, left the country aboard a commercial flight; however, the authorities maintain him as wanted for questioning in the case.
The Prosecutor's Office continues with the analysis of the evidence collected, in a process aimed at determining the structure of the operation and the individual responsibilities of each of those involved.
