Officers from the Paraguayan National Police detained an individual linked to a robbery committed last week at a business in the capital. The shop, located on Guido Boggiani Avenue, was the target of a night-time break-in in which merchandise valued at approximately 60 million guaraníes disappeared.
According to a report published by La Nación, the break-in took place on 22 April. The intruders forced open the main entrance and, in a short time, loaded numerous appliances from the inventory. Footage from the video surveillance system captured the thieves' actions, facilitating their identification.
Police Commissioner Cristian Sosa, heading the Investigation division, confirmed that a series of house searches enabled the capture of one of the suspected perpetrators. The group is believed to consist of about half a dozen individuals, all of them with active arrest warrants.
In statements to Telefuturo, Sosa described those involved as individuals with a history of crimes of this nature, who operate armed and select targets after prior reconnaissance, attacking when establishments are closed. In situations where they encounter security guards, they use physical aggression to subdue them.
The officer added that investigators already have the personal details of the rest of the gang and that arrest warrants have been forwarded to the Public Ministry. Video recordings of the crime, released recently, show the moment the criminals forced entry, gathered the products, and left the site.
The affected business is a recognised retail point in the central area of Asunción.
