Prison police officer detained in Tulcea for cannabis trafficking

A 23-year-old prison police officer has been detained by prosecutors from DIICOT – Tulcea Territorial Bureau, investigated for trafficking in risk drugs, according to adevarul.ro.
According to investigators, the young man allegedly acquired, possessed and sold quantities of cannabis in the area of Tulcea municipality, charging 40 lei per gram. The criminal activity under investigation allegedly took place during the period October 2023 – August 2026.
On 23 August, the officer was caught red-handed in Cataloi locality whilst in possession of and transporting approximately 200 grammes of cannabis intended for sale, according to DIICOT.
Immediately afterwards, prosecutors executed a home search warrant at his residence. Approximately 190 grammes of cannabis were discovered, along with other doses of substance awaiting expert analysis, as well as several items which investigators say could be linked to the criminal activity. Among the seized property were "grinders, items bearing traces of substance, as well as other evidence", according to the DIICOT statement.
On Monday, 24 August, prosecutors notified the judge of rights and freedoms at Tulcea Court with a proposal for 30 days of pre-trial detention.
Investigations continue to establish the full extent of the criminal activity. The person under investigation enjoys the presumption of innocence and all procedural rights provided by law.
