Google News RO — Crime (ro) reports that a man identified by the initials Ș.V.A. was placed in preventive arrest for 30 days after the National Anticorruption Directorate charged him with two offences of trafficking in influence and instigation of trafficking in influence. The decision was issued on 22 August 2026 by the judge of rights and liberties at the Bucharest Court, at the proposal of the National Anticorruption Directorate.
According to investigators, the defendant allegedly requested, on several occasions, sums totalling 105,000 euros, of which he actually received 54,000 euros.
First episode — November 2024
Prosecutors claim that Ș.V.A. requested 40,000 euros from two persons and received 28,000 euros, claiming that he could intervene with a prosecutor and police officers from the National Anticorruption Directorate so that a criminal case would be resolved favourably.
Second episode — May 2026
According to the National Anticorruption Directorate, the defendant allegedly determined and supported another person to request 40,000 euros from a mayor, funds intended for a case prosecutor so that he "would not fulfil his duties in a criminal case". For this alleged intermediation, Ș.V.A. received 6,000 euros.
Third episode — Buzău County
In a separate circumstance, the defendant allegedly demanded a further 25,000 euros in two instalments, claiming that he had influence over a prosecutor and a commissioner at the National Anticorruption Directorate. The promise aimed at obtaining a favourable outcome in a case concerning alleged wrongdoing by officials from a local authority in Buzău County.
The red-handed situation on 21 August 2026
The arrest followed a red-handed situation organised on 21 August 2026. According to the National Anticorruption Directorate's statement, Ș.V.A. received 10,000 euros from the targeted person, representing the first instalment of the requested amount, at which point the anticorruption prosecutors established the red-handed offence.
The investigators further specify that Ș.V.A. has previously been convicted of similar offences in three prior criminal cases handled by the National Anticorruption Directorate.
The National Anticorruption Directorate emphasises that the initiation of criminal proceedings represents a stage of the criminal process and that this "cannot, in any situation, infringe the principle of the presumption of innocence". The investigation continues, and the defendant enjoys all rights and procedural guarantees provided by law.
