Bodyguard implicated in the casino network of the "DMS family", sent to trial by DIICOT

Gândul reports that Ion Coporan, a well-known Bucharest bodyguard who works for two businessmen in the north of the capital, was sent to trial by DIICOT prosecutors at the end of August in the "Las Vegas" case — a large-scale investigation targeting a gambling network controlled through intimidation and violence.

The case primarily targets the brothers Mihai and Sorin Doroftei, known in criminal circles as the "DMS family". They allegedly opened casinos in several cities across the country and recruited criminals to guard the establishments. Order was imposed through terror: clients were forcibly removed from gaming machines, regardless of whether they still had credit, and those who resisted were beaten without involving the authorities.

The key figures in the gang were crime leaders Florin Șpac and Marian Sîrbu, known as Box. Along with them, other names from the criminal underworld appear: the Corduneanu brothers from Iași, Ion Bogdan Sandu (known as Bobo Sandu), Dumitru Bărbulescu (alias Bebe Cămătaru) and Ion Coporan.

Previously convicted for extorting Florin Salam

Coporan already has a finalised criminal case with a conviction. According to judicial sources, he received nearly seven years in prison for the fact that, during the period October 2017 – July 2020, together with prominent members of the Duduianu clan, he allegedly extorted several top musicians, among them Florin Salam — forcing them to pay sums on the order of hundreds of thousands of euros.

Employee of the "Tărtășești princes"

Ion Coporan was employed by the brothers Eduard and Marius Rusu, known in the press as the "Tărtășești princes" — sons of Ion Rusu, former mayor of Tărtășești, described during his term as the wealthiest mayor in Romania.

In June 2023, Eduard Rusu allegedly invited Coporan to celebrate his birthday together, as the two shared the same date. The party took place in a venue in Tărtășești belonging to the Rusu family. Coporan allegedly brought to the event a group of criminals — Alexandru Stoica (known as Aticu), Marius Alecu (known as Bebino) and Costel Raiciu (alias Litrașu). In the course of the party, a conflict arising from musical dedications resulted in Eduard Rusu being beaten.

Judicial sources also stated that Ion Coporan had been seen repeatedly at the Atmosphere club in the Herăstrău area, a venue that Eduard Rusu allegedly shared with crime leader Emil Caran.
