Bucharest Court of Appeal to rule in November on Georgescu's GDPR fines case
The Bucharest Court of Appeal has set 3 November for the ruling in the case concerning fines exceeding 50,000 lei imposed on Călin Georgescu for illegal data collection.

Verdict expected on 3 November in Călin Georgescu's ANSPDCP fines case
The Bucharest Court of Appeal remained in deliberation on Tuesday in the appeal filed by Călin Georgescu against the decision of Ilfov Tribunal whereby his request to annul fines exceeding 50,000 lei was rejected, according to Gândul. The verdict will be delivered on 3 November.
The former candidate in the presidential elections, currently in preventive custody in a case of the DIICOT regarding fraud with particularly serious consequences, was not present at Tuesday's final hearings.
The case has a civil character and was processed at the contentious affairs section of the courts. The procedure started after the National Authority for the Supervision of Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP) imposed two fines on Georgescu in July 2025, following the illegal collection of personal data during his electoral campaign.
The first fine, valued at 30,000 lei, was issued for breach of Article 4, paragraph 5, letters a and b of Law no. 506/2004 concerning the processing of personal data in the electronic communications sector, a fact correlated with the illegal storage of cookies. The second fine, of 30,286.80 lei, concerned non-compliance with Articles 12, 13 and 14 of the European GDPR Regulation (EU) 2016/679, namely the failure to fulfil the obligation of transparency and informing citizens.
Georgescu initially contested the sanctions at Ilfov Tribunal, where he lost the case in January 2026. Subsequently, he appealed the decision, and the case was brought before the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
The defence argued, both before Ilfov Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, that the fines had been issued illegally by ANSPDCP and that state authorities had orchestrated a concerted attack against their client. The lawyers requested the complete annulment of the sanctions.
The decision of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, expected on 3 November, will determine whether the fines remain in force or are annulled.
