Daniela Coteanu, known to the public by her stage name Dana Marijuana, received a sentence of five years and four months in prison on Friday, handed down by Constanța Court, according to Cotidianul.ro. The case concerns trafficking in high-risk drugs and driving a vehicle under the influence of psychoactive substances.

The court imposed two separate sentences: five years in prison for trafficking in high-risk drugs and an additional year for driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances. The judges deducted from the sentence the period during which Coteanu was in custody, preventive detention and home arrest, a period calculated from 22 August 2024.

The sentence is not final and may be challenged by appeal within ten days of notification.

In the same case, two men who were in Daniela Coteanu's car at the time of her arrest were also sentenced. Cristi-Alin Neagu received six years and three months in prison for trafficking in high-risk drugs and possession for personal consumption, whilst Mugur-Valentin Nicula was sentenced to six years and four months for the same offences.

The case began on 22 August 2024, when police stopped the vehicle on DN 39 in the locality of 2 Mai. A test carried out on the spot indicated the possible presence of psychoactive substances. "Following testing with the device at our disposal, indicators emerged regarding the possible presence of psychoactive substances. The person was taken to a medical facility for the collection of biological samples, in order to accurately establish consumption of prohibited substances," police said.

Investigators found multiple prohibited substances on the three individuals and inside the vehicle, which formed the basis of the criminal file subsequently pursued.
