Police officers accused of abandoning domestic violence case at Vama Veche

Investigation at IPJ Constanța after police officers allegedly abandoned an intervention in Vama Veche

The Constanța County Police Inspectorate has opened an internal investigation after a witness accused a police unit of abandoning a domestic violence case on the beach in Vama Veche, citing the end of their shift as the reason, according to stirileprotv.ro.

According to PRO TV News correspondents, a man called 112 to report that a tourist was hitting his partner in a tent on the beach. A female tourist in the vicinity who heard the commotion intervened and removed the 35-year-old woman from the aggressor's hands before the authorities arrived.

On the scene, the police officers allegedly found that the victim's partner was in a state of intoxication, allegedly checked whether the woman was in danger and explained to her the rights she had available. The victim allegedly refused the issuance of a protection order.

A witness claims that the police officers subsequently left the intervention site on the grounds that their shift had expired. The intervention was continued by gendarmes, who took over the case. The aggressor is being investigated whilst at liberty for domestic violence.

The leadership of IPJ Constanța announced that it is conducting checks to establish whether the accusations are confirmed and whether the police officers involved respected the legal procedures in force.
