Andrew and Tristan Tate have been sent for trial by DIICOT in a new case involving human trafficking of minors, to prevent the statute of limitations from running out on the charges.

New case against Tate brothers, separate to prevent statute of limitations

According to Cotidianul.ro, Andrew and Tristan Tate have been sent for trial by DIICOT prosecutors in a separate case involving human trafficking of minors. The charge sheet also includes accusations of money laundering in continuous form, in accordance with art. 49 para. (1) letter b) of Law no. 129/2019 combined with art. 35 para. (1) of the Criminal Code.

According to information published on Portaljust.ro, the main subject matter of the case is human trafficking of minors. Sources cited by HotNews.ro indicate that these accusations were separated from the entirety of the cases handled by DIICOT precisely to eliminate the risk of the statute of limitations running out.

The referral for trial comes after, in December 2024, the Bucharest Court of Appeal returned the initial charge sheet to DIICOT, requesting that the criminal investigation be reopened. Subsequently, prosecutors expanded the investigation and formulated additional accusations in the case.

The Tate brothers are the subject of several parallel cases at different stages of investigation. The accusations cover a broad spectrum: forming an organised criminal group, human trafficking and trafficking of minors, rape in continuous form, illegal access to an information system, violence, incitement to violence and money laundering.

In April 2026, the Bucharest Court removed all judicial control measures after four years of investigation, with the two remaining free to move about without restrictions imposed by Romanian justice.

At present, Andrew and Tristan Tate are in the custody of American federal authorities in Miami, as a result of an extradition request made by British authorities. In July 2026, the Crown Prosecution Service issued 38 new charges, added to the 21 existing ones, totalling 59 accusations in Britain.
