A 17-year-old was detained on Saturday evening by police officers in Bucharest following a traffic pursuit in which he hit a police vehicle, according to spotmedia.ro. The young man was driving a motorcycle without a registration plate on Șoseaua Andronache in Sector 2 and did not hold a driving licence for any category of vehicle.
Police officers from Sector 7 Police Station observed the motorcycle and signalled the driver to stop. The teenager responded by accelerating, moving quickly across several streets in the area. The Traffic Police Brigade announced details of the case on Sunday afternoon, as cited by News.ro.
Crews launched a pursuit with acoustic and light signals activated, supported by other units in the field. Via the acoustic system of the police vehicle, the teenager was repeatedly ordered to stop, but ignored the orders.
At the intersection of Strada Izvorul Muntelui and Strada Gureni, the motorcycle struck a police vehicle involved in the pursuit. After the impact, the adolescent attempted to flee on foot but was immobilised by officers from Sector 7 Police Station in accordance with legal procedures.
Both drivers involved were tested with a breathalyser and a drug test apparatus, with results registering "zero" and "negative" respectively. The 17-year-old required medical care and was taken to hospital.
Checks confirmed that the motorcycle was not registered or recorded as in circulation. "The investigation is being continued under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, to establish the full facts of the situation and take the necessary measures," the Traffic Police Brigade stated.
