Minister of Interior Affairs Cătălin Predoiu announced on his official Facebook page the seizure of 1.7 tonnes of high-risk drugs, according to bursa.ro. The result is presented as a major success for the anti-drug structures of the Romanian Police.
Operation MATRIX directly targets an international drug trafficking network and removes significant quantities of risk and high-risk substances from the market, Predoiu emphasised in his post.
Since taking office, the minister has established the fight against drug trafficking as an institutional priority. Anti-drug structures have responded through work, strategic planning and hundreds of operations, according to the same message.
Considerable resources were allocated for this purpose: over 200 police officers were assigned to anti-drug structures, specialised canine teams trained in drug detection were formed, the network of analysis laboratories was expanded, and through the Anti-Drug Roadmap additional funds were allocated to increase operational capacity.
Predoiu congratulated the police officers and prosecutors involved and thanked international partners who collaborated on the operation. The minister concluded that, whilst the result is significant, the fight against drug trafficking continues.
