DICOT searches in Bucharest and counties: 1.7 tonnes of drugs seized, Albanian network targeted
DICOT and police have carried out 16 searches in Bucharest and several counties in a drugs trafficking case. Over 1.7 tonnes of narcotics were seized, valued at 25 million euros on the retail market.
Drug transport network for Albanian traffickers dismantled following searches across the country
DICOT prosecutors and police officers have carried out 16 searches in Bucharest and in several counties, reports romania-actualitati.ro, in a case targeting a group that is suspected of providing drug transport services for Albanian drug traffickers. During the investigation, the authorities seized over 1.7 tonnes of narcotics, valued at over 9.6 million euros at wholesale level and 25 million euros at retail market level.
The leader of the group, a Romanian citizen, was included last year by Europol — at Romania's request — on the list of high-value targets, called "High Value Target". The group is believed to have made transport services available to Albanian traffickers for different types and quantities of drugs, concealed in specially adapted compartments of lorries.
Four shipments were detected by authorities in France, Germany, Italy and Spain, based on evidence and information transmitted by Romanian investigators. Hearings in this case are to take place at DIICOT, the central structure, according to RRA reporter Diana Surdu.
