Several commercial companies specialising in the recovery and recovery of waste metals are the subject of a criminal investigation conducted by anti-corruption magistrates in Galați. On the morning of 16 July 2026, law enforcement descended simultaneously on 30 properties spread across 11 administrative-territorial units.

The investigators suspect that, in the period 2023–2025, representatives of these companies would have caused damage to the public budget in the amount of approximately 15 million lei through illegal tax operations. The searches targeted both the residences of individuals and the registered offices and workplaces of the companies involved.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of several structures: the operational centre of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, territorial prosecutors' offices in Bacău, Craiova, Pitești and Constanța, the Special Operations Brigade Galați, economic crime officers from Galați and Vrancea counties, together with Gendarmerie personnel.
