Swedish rapper sought internationally captured by DIICOT following raids in Bucharest and Otopeni
Haval Khalil, a Swedish rapper aged approximately 30, was arrested on Thursday morning in Romania, following raids carried out in Bucharest and Otopeni, according to ProTV News. The man was being sought internationally and is suspected of complicity in attempted murder and aggravated extortion.
Swedish prosecutor Ida Arnell, who is coordinating the investigation, confirmed the information for publication Aftonbladet. "He was arrested in absentia this morning. We had found out that he was in Romania. After the arrest warrant was issued, a European arrest warrant was transmitted," Arnell stated.
The operation was prepared in collaboration with Romanian police and Europol. Romanian authorities acted swiftly after receiving information about Khalil's whereabouts. Jonas Hemmar, deputy head of the International Unit of Swedish police, thanked the Romanian forces for their intervention: "We are very grateful for the efficient work of the Romanian police."
Facts under investigation
Khalil is suspected of involvement in three offences committed in the Stockholm area in 2024. On 16 September, a 15-year-old boy allegedly fired several shots at the entrance door of a house in Skarpnäck — no person was physically injured. Khalil is suspected of complicity in both this attempted murder and threats at the same address.
Additionally, investigators are examining him for aggravated extortion, an offence that allegedly took place in Bromma in the October-November 2024 period. In the same case file appears Mikael Tenezos, leader of the Dalen network, extradited last year from Mexico to Sweden and suspected in the same matters.
Criminal history and music career
This is not Haval Khalil's first encounter with the justice system. In 2021, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for involvement in the kidnapping of Swedish rapper Einár. Khalil was allegedly among the people who lured the artist to an apartment in Vårberg, where he was subsequently kidnapped.
In recent years, Khalil had been abroad. Investigators established that he was hiding in Romania before the European arrest warrant was issued.
Beyond his criminal cases, Khalil is known in Sweden as an artist. His debut album, Inloggad, released in 2020, brought him notoriety, and in 2021 he was nominated for the Grammis awards in the category "Newcomer of the Year". His tracks have accumulated millions of listens on Spotify.
