Seven men from Covasna detained after attack on police officers in Brașov city centre
Seven people from Covasna County were detained on Tuesday after attacking a police unit on Nicolae Bălcescu Street in Brașov. Riot police and gendarmes intervened to immobilise the suspects.
Attack on police officers in Brașov's historic centre: seven detained
Seven people — five men and two women, all from Covasna County — were detained on Tuesday, 26 August, after attacking a police unit in the centre of Brașov, according to G4Media, citing the Rador news agency and Radio Brașov.
The incident began on Gheorghe Barițiu Street, near the Maternity Hospital, where a passerby alerted a patrol unit about a conflict between several people. Immediately after the altercation, all those involved got into a vehicle and left the area at speed.
Police officers set off in pursuit of the car and intercepted it shortly afterwards on Nicolae Bălcescu Street. Upon stopping, several adults got out of the vehicle and attacked the law enforcement officers, after which they scattered through the surrounding streets.
The unit requested emergency assistance. Additional police, gendarme and riot police units from special forces arrived at the scene. The Maternity Hospital area, Poarta Șchei and Piața Enescu were covered by law enforcement.
Following searches, all seven people were located and immobilised. The vehicle used by the group was identified later in the Civic Centre area.
According to Brașov County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), the suspects are at the Brașov Municipal Police headquarters — Criminal Investigations Department, for questioning. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, to establish all the circumstances of the incident and decide on appropriate legal measures.
