Emergency call for robbery, concluding with 8.5 kilograms of drugs seized

An emergency call logged on 1 November 2026 triggered an investigation that uncovered high-risk international drug trafficking, according to criticarad.ro. The victim, a man who carried out international transport of persons and goods on the Netherlands–Romania route, reported that he had been attacked by four individuals in the town of Avram Iancu, Bihor county.

The attack and theft of two parcels from trailers

According to the victim's statement, after entering the country, he stopped in Avram Iancu at the request of several passengers. Whilst he was outside the minibus, four men repeatedly struck him with their fists in the head area, then removed two parcels from the trailer attached to the vehicle. The victim also reported the loss of 500 euros that he had on him.

The man stated that he had collected the parcels from Amsterdam and was to deliver them to an address in Romania, which was to be communicated to him later by the sender.

Service dog signalled the presence of drugs

At the scene, investigators used a dog trained to detect narcotic substances. The dog repeatedly signalled, by barking, the presence of a specific drug odour inside the van, although the substances were not physically discovered at that moment.

Based on the victim's statement, witness accounts and investigation data, investigators identified the four men and the vehicle they were travelling in.

Suspects caught in Timiș county with parcels on them

The four were located and stopped in Timiș county. When the vehicle was searched, the service dog again signalled the presence of drugs. After opening the packaging and breaking the double bottom of the boxes, investigators discovered 12 bags containing approximately 8.5 kilograms of high-risk drug: approximately 2.4 kilograms of cocaine and over 6.1 kilograms of heroin, intended for sale.

DIICOT: detention and preventive arrest for 30 days

On 2 November 2026, prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism – Oradea Territorial Service ordered the detention of the four defendants, aged between 22 and 43, two of them repeat offenders and two members of the same family. They are being investigated for aggravated robbery, complicity in international high-risk drug trafficking and domestic high-risk drug trafficking.

On Tuesday, 3 November, the judge for rights and freedoms at Bihor Tribunal ordered the preventive arrest of all four defendants for a period of 30 days.

Judicial activities were carried out in collaboration with police officers from the Organised Crime Combating Brigade Oradea, the Criminal Investigation Service from Bihor County Police Inspectorate and that from Timiș County Police Inspectorate.

DIICOT notes that the persons being investigated benefit from all rights and procedural guarantees provided by the Criminal Procedure Code, including the presumption of innocence.
